feverDay One: Before you went to bed last night, you were perfectly fine.  This morning, you wake up with a stuffy nose, dry cough, and you can’t seem to get out of bed.

Day Two: Your symptoms have gotten worse, along with new symptoms of nausea and muscle pains.

Day Three:  You’re still not feeling like yourself and you’re wondering if you should stay in bed wrapped in blankets, or seek medical attention.

We’re officially in the midst of flu season, and more than likely, your cold-like symptoms could illustrate that you have the flu.

Getting the flu is no joke, and can often lead to hospitalization if your symptoms are left untreated.

Here are a few reasons why you should visit a physician to get your symptoms checked out.

You have a fever:  Any time you have a fever of over 101 degrees, you should seek medical attention, as you could potentially have another virus or illness such as pneumonia or strep throat.

You are considered “high-risk”:  Young children, and individuals with asthma, are pregnant or have recently given birth, are over the age of 65, or are currently dealing with chronic health conditions should visit a medical professional for flu-like symptoms in the case it could develop into pneumonia.

Your symptoms have last for longer than three days:  A regular cold usually clears up after three to four days, whereas flu-like symptoms come on suddenly and can linger around for more than a week.
